Like many people I love to drink wine, but I can honestly say I dont know the difference between a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Chianti. Therefore my goal this semester is to become wine saavy. I want to know why people slosh their wine around in their glass while delicately sniifing the aroma. What makes some wines considered hot and others not? And finally how do wines get their name? Is a Merlot made from Merlot grapes?
Although I have just begun my research I have found many helpful sites to get me on my way. The Maryland Wine website has a wine glossary which helps beginners like me expand their wine vocabulary. While Vino! has a wine 101 page which goes through everything from how wine is made to the basic differences bewteen red and white wines. I didn't find answers to all my questions today but I look forward to learning more about Maryland wineries and wine in general.

I've always wondered this myself! good topic idea I think you will learn a lot and there is so much information out there... also congrats on picking a topic that you dont already know about like most (including myseld) did... that was brave of you to go out a limb and try something new
Hey Regan! Great topic! I agree with you, I love drinking wine but I don't know much about it besides the basics. The wine glossary really helped. I was reading an article online today about a wine bar in downtown Baltimore. I don't know if you've heard of it but try to search for it, it's somewhere on the internet.I think it would be cool to explore how wine became so popular recently, especially with young adults. Good Luck!
I like this concept and by then end of your journey i'm sure you'll become a wine connoisseur. A reason you slosh the wine around, is to see whether or not it sticks to the glass, that shows you the body of the wine. There are also differences in grain or texture (smooth, full, light), color (red, white, blush) and body (full, medium) and of course a variety of flavors. I used to be a waitress at Olive Garden, this is how i know these things. At any rate, I wish you the best of luck. I think you should also take time out to comment on the good and the bad wine you try; describe your taste tests. Enjoy!
